Lathlain is a Perth, Western Australia, inner south-east suburb. The Town of Victoria Park is its local government area. Carl Klem and his brother-in-law and senior partner Percy Hope built Lathlain as a \”garden suburb\” estate in 1920. The construction sparked great debate when it was first proposed, with 16 internal reserves providing open space to all allotments. The neighborhood was named after Sir William Lathlain, Perth’s Lord Mayor from 1918 to 1923. The name has been in common usage since the 1950s, when a park of the same name was created nearby, although it was not gazetted until 1981. Lathlain is a residential suburb containing two reserves, two hotels and Lathlain Primary School. Commercial and other services are provided by Victoria Park and Belmont.
